The Freedom Challenge route runs from Pietermaritzburg to Diemersfontein farm just outside Cape Town – roughly 2400km’s with a sum total of 46,000m of altitude gain along the route:

The below video of lasts years finishers (also completed the triathlon version!) will give you a good idea of what the route can throw at you, but also just how rewarding this journey is:

The use of GPS for navigation is forbidden, so riders use 1:50 000 topographic maps along with race director narratives to pick our course across South Africa – to get an idea of the maps we use have a look here.
