Leaving Elandsberg was incredibly cold as the temp in Craddock valley go to -6 without windchill. Both Andre and I struggled with frozen derailer cables.

Finally the day warmed up, but not for yours truly, as I misjudged a river crossing a took a very low speed slide out into the river. Casper (the doctor) found this particularly amusing!

As a result of my wet clothes, we pushed hard to Stuttgart (overnight stop) so that I could change. Given that we were there before 12 we opted to push on.

After some lovely tailwind and hard pack rodes we got to Grootdam (found it ok) at 5ish. At 4ish Mr Racing Snake Andre was already eyeing out that next stretch of road. I opted to go with him. A fast turnaround at the very ideallic and tempting Swaershoek Safari (Grootdam) showed that we already had 145km on the odo in just under 11hours.

Andre and I took on the now night time portage of Skurweberg with major focus and concentration – the result was that we got it spot on but it just took time (part white rocks decent). We pushed on the final flat stages but still ended on some pretty hectic numbers on getting to Van der Venterskraaal: 230km in 18h10min…..!

Tomorrow the plan is Bucklands on the edge of Baviaans, so the 5am wackeup only gives us 4hrs sleep. Lets hope I dont start unravelling!

Net effect is that I am now -2 days to race par.
